- Type out your text
This tutorial will help you understand how to achieve nice effects using text layer styles. Using this tutorial you can learn to create hundreds of different text effects easily.
- Create your text.
This demonstration uses Myriad, but you can utilize similar fonts such as Arial Black. This text is also pitch black.

- Set the Outer Glow
To start, we will add an outer glow; In this case, it will be used more for a shadow effect.
- Double click the text layer to open the layer styles window.
- Go to the drop shadow section. The image (see left) has been highlighted to show areas that have been adjusted.
Opacity: 23
Color: Black
Spread: 0%
Size: 5px

- Set the Inner Glow
The purpose of the inner glow is to allow the background of the text to display; Which will also be used for various text glow effects.
- Click on the Inner Glow section. (see left)
Opacity: 40%
Color: White
Source: Center
Size: 4px

- Set the Stroke
Remember the outer glow we added? Well since that glow starts from the text, we need to better define the outline. This step is very important and you will notice why as you play and test your text types.
- Apply the stroke style to your text.
Size: 1
Color: White
Close style window.

- Getting the Final Result
If done properly, your text will look similar to the one left. Now that you have completed this stage, the fun part begins!
- From this point on, all you need to do is simply adjust the text color for your desired brightness and color.
