Photoshop Tutorials - Smooth Rounded Corners The corners of your design will show the quality of your work and patience. You can make quick blocky corners, or smooth rounded corners. When completing work for clients, always use smooth rounded corners.
Select the object / box To get you used to corners, we will start with a classic non-smoothed corner.
Once mastered, this process takes under 10 seconds.
Create a new layer and make a box.
Add a selection around this box. (Ctrl+Click Layer)
Smooth and set corner size
Photoshop menu: Select -> Modify -> Smooth...
Sample Radius: How large you would like your corners. (Enter 5)
Your selection should look like the demo left.
Inverse selection and delete
Inverse selection by pressing Ctrl+Shift+i Or Photoshop Menu: Select -> Inverse
Now press delete, this will give you your basic corners.
Corner Edge Complete (Rough)
Zoom into the corner and you will notice your corner is very pixelated. This is very noticeable to web developers and clients. Avoid rough corners by smoothing them out. (Optional)
Smoothing Corners The best corners are ones done manually by hand. This process will take a little longer but it is critical to learn.
The first three steps are not required but teaches you all aspects and methods.
Zoom into the corner you are going to smooth.
Create a circular selection and move it to the corner of your box.
The size of your selection depends on how large you want your corners.
Inverse and Erase
Inverse selection by pressing Ctrl+Shift+i Or Photoshop Menu: Select -> Inverse
Now manually erase the corner with a solid small brush. (Size 9)
This will make a smooth antianalized corner.
Repeat this process for all four corners.
